Brick and Barrel Cross Keys
About This Spot
Brick and Barrel Cross Keys welcomes you into a warm, inviting space that feels like a trusted friend’s home—comfortable, yet bustling with quiet energy. Nestled just off the beaten path in Pittsburgh’s winding Dorseyville Road, this restaurant and bar strikes a gentle balance between lively neighborhood hub and relaxed gathering spot. Whether you slip in for a casual weekday bite or to catch a game with friends in one of its cozy, distinctly separated rooms, the atmosphere invites easy conversation and slow moments of pleasure.
The pace here is unhurried yet animated, with the comforting murmur of fellow diners and the occasional cheer from the screen blending into a natural soundtrack for the evening. Soft lighting and thoughtful details in the decor add layers of subtle warmth, making every visit feel personal. It’s a place where time feels generous, and the welcoming staff become part of the experience rather than just service providers.
Food at Brick and Barrel Cross Keys unfolds as a delicious companion to the atmosphere, crafted to satisfy without overwhelm. You might find yourself sharing a basket of perfectly crisped duck fat fries or lingering over a large skillet of mac and cheese that somehow balances rich indulgence with homestyle comfort. The menu embraces a playful mix of hearty favorites and inventive touches—the kind of dishes that encourage sharing, swapping, and discovering new favorites bite by bite.
Handcrafted cocktails and a thoughtfully curated beer flight seem to echo the food’s approachable creativity. House specialties like the peanut butter cup martini or a well-poured Manhattan perch beside you, blending into the easy hum of the gathering crowd. Whether you’re sliding onto bar stools or settling into a private nook, the drink menu keeps pace with the room’s inviting spirit.
What stands out is the feeling of familiarity without predictability—regulars find their places within these walls, while newcomers are quickly embraced by sincere smiles and attentive care. The charm here lies in those human moments: a server who anticipates your preferences, a group finding comfort in shared dishes after an afternoon hike, laughter spilling into conversation over a shared pizza. It’s less about rushing and more about savoring the mix of comfort food, good drinks, and genuine connection.

A large group of us (12) decided to come get after a hike in a local park. We all were able to sit together in a nice side room together (with the Steelers game on!). The on tap beer selection is great and they have lots of house cocktail options. The food, especially the crispy pizza, was excellent! Everyone had a nice time and appreciated our server Brittney very much. A local we made friends with even treated us to a special buffalo chicken pizza not even on the menu. Overall a great experience!

Not even sure where to begin! This was by far the most amazing food we have had out period! Great service and amazing ambiance! Already planning out next visit! The Gearhead burger was perfectly medium rare and SO delicious! The duck fries incredible. My daughter had crabcakes and they were PERFECTION! Cant wait till next time!

I visited Brick & Barrel Cross Keys for the first time during Pittsburgh Restaurant Week, and despite its immense popularity, I was seated immediately—no wait at all. That alone was a great start. I ordered The Barnyard Burger, their specialty duck fat fries, and what a bourbon hot chocolate from their seasonal special drinks menu. Simply put, this was the best burger I have ever had. Everything about it—from the quality of the meat to the toppings and the way it was cooked—was phenomenal. I enjoyed it so much that I returned just a week later to try another burger, The Gunslinger, along with regular fries and the Spinach Artichoke Dip appetizer. Once again, I was not disappointed—the flavors were outstanding, and everything was cooked to perfection. Of all the restaurants I visited during Restaurant Week, this was by far the best experience. The food was great, the service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere, an experience all on its own, really made it stand out, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're looking for incredible burgers and a top-tier dining experience, Brick & Barrel Cross Keys should be at the top of your list!

Always enjoy my visit! The place is cozy (the space is divided up in different rooms of the “house”) and the service is always super friendly. The spinach and artichoke dip (with fried pita chips) is one of the best dips I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I’ve tried a variety of burgers and pizzas, and the “artichoke the chicken” is one of my favorites. The duck fat fries are delicious, but the regular fries are as equally good without the added cost. All in all, highly recommend!

I love coming here. I chose to dine out here as a Christmas gift one year and my birthday this year. It's so cozy, the food is delicious, and the service is always great.

We had the wings fried in duck fat with hot sauce and they were pretty good probably could have been cooked a little less as they were a little dry. We also had the pizza with pepperoni on it and the flavor was good but it seemed that needed cooked a little longer as it wasn't crispy that wasn't really hot. Probably go back and try something else.

A little, rustic oasis of sorts in an otherwise residential area that feels very far away from the nearby city. I went with my family and parents on an early Saturday night (I also wanted to use a Groupon). The location, a historic home, has an intimate feel, but doesn't seem totally out of place for more casual dining. The menu is smaller but varied, with a mix of modern Gastropub offerings and more classic American dining staples. The drink menu is also extremely vast, boasting a massive bourbon selection as well as some intriguing flight options. We started out with the giant pretzel with beer cheese, which was quite good, and had a texture and flavor that tasted a bit more like bakery bread than other pretzels, and was a nice alternative. I got the Swine of Florence flatbread as my main, along with the seasonal Brussels sprouts. Both items were well made and enjoyable. The rest of my finally seemed quite happy with their choices as well, even if the price is a bit high overall when compared to nearby alternatives. Overall, this is an upscale but casually inviting experience with enjoyable food centered around their namesake brick oven. A bit on the pricier side, but worth it for the overall experience and ambiance, and often alleviated by online coupon offers. Worth a stop if you're the area, but want to get away from the nearby hustle and bustle.
